Here’s a guide to tailoring your diet to your digestion. It starts with a simple test (using a soda cracker or piece of raw potato!) to determine how well you digest starch. From there, Dr Moalem, a physician (so he knows people), a neurogeneticist (so he knows DNA) and a best selling author (so it’s a good read), launches into detail. His program comprises five action “Pillars:” Eat for your genes; Reverse aging; Eat umami; Drink oolong tea; and Live slowly. Much of the advice will be familiar—avoid processed food, reduce red meat, exercise regularly—but some will not, such as the focus on “umami,” the insidious effect of emulsifiers as food additives, and the benefits of marinating meat. The book includes numerous specific health tips and ends with sample menus and recipes.
